Jewelry Care

Hand-painted Custom Eye Jewelry: Although the eyes are sealed completely, please avoid excessive water exposure to your piece. Try to remove before showering/bathing when you can and always remove before swimming in a beach, pool, or hot tub.  Avoid storing in direct sunlight or regularly sun bathing in hand-painted jewelry for extended periods of time. Treat as you would any sentimental piece you want to keep safe. Follow care below for specific metal your eye is wrapped in.

Engraved Pieces: Follow care below based on type of metal.

Sterling Silver: Tarnishing and darkening is normal and removable! Tarnishing and the speed of tarnishing to silver can be caused by many factors: higher skin ph, minerals in tap water, cleaning chemicals, oils, etc. To remove tarnish, polish with a silver polishing cloth  (I recommend Connoisseurs disposable polishing cloths!) If gifting at a later date, store sterling silver in a plastic bag rather than the box as chemicals from the box/paper can slowly tarnish sterling silver over time. It's not harmful to the piece if this happens, you'd just need to polish it before gifting.

Gold Plated Sterling Silver/Gold plated Stainless Steel: Avoid contact with water, cosmetics, and let perfume/lotion dry before putting on jewelry. Avoid friction to the piece especially with other jewelry as this can damage the plating. Store in soft pouch or plastic bag when not in use.

Stainless Steel: Use polishing cloth to shine when needed. Stainless steel does not tarnish.

Rings: Remove before strenuous activities, lifting weights, working with your hands, etc. to avoid excessive scratching or misshaping of the sterling silver. For the thinner bands, it is best to choose a size that fits well so the gaps do not misshape the metal over time as sterling silver is a malleable metal.

10k/14k Gold: Wipe with a cloth to shine and clean with mild soap and water. Sometimes lower karat gold can tarnish but it is removable with a gold polishing cloth or cleanser.  It is best to store your jewelry in a soft pouch or separate compartment to prevent scratching/dulling. I add an additional protective gold coating to my solid gold items to help prevent any tarnish, scratching, and so that they can keep their polished look.  Additionally, remove gold jewelry before swimming, bathing, or engaging in strenuous activities to help preserve its shine and integrity. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasives.

Remember, scratches and scuffs to your jewelry are inevitable & just part of wearing jewelry; especially with precious metals such as gold and silver. They can be somewhat prevented by avoiding friction with other jewelry or by removing jewelry before strenuous activities. You may notice scratches more on the metal at first but they tend to even out over time as more develop.
